The Third Wave: Six Sigma for Products, Services, and the Technologies that Drive Them™

The “First Wave" of Six Sigma originated at Motorola during the 1980's and has been widely applied in manufacturing, hardware and industrial applications ever since. Rapid popularity was fueled by successful adoption at Allied Signal and General Electric. Two of our founders were participants in the original development consortium at Motorola.

The “Second Wave” extended Six Sigma into transactional and services applications and organizations during the 1990's and has also met with remarkable success. A number of high-profile Service Companies demonstrated equally impressive results in company wide deployments. Members of the SSAI team were leaders in the adaptation of Six Sigma for Transactional applications.

The "Third Wave" began in the late '90s, as it became clear that technology design, development, and deployment are key drivers of product and services excellence. Six Sigma Advantage adapted the Six Sigma methodology for use in "High Technology" applications and carefully integrated those adaptations to leverage Six Sigma gains in product innovation and services.
